About Us

The Book Grocer was established in March 2007, in a little store on Sydney Road, in Brunswick.  Our Northcote store followed soon after in August 2007.  We then established ourselves in the ACT, in Kingston (where some of us used to live) in January 2008.  

Since then, we've opened stores in Williamstown (known as Williamstown Books) and in the Melbourne CBD and South Melbourne.

We've also popped up here and there in the Melbourne CBD (most recently in Bourke St and Elsternwick) and have plans to keep doing this - check our website for the latest pop-up Book Grocer store near you!

We are a family-owned business and for the past 10 years we have prided ourselves on sourcing the best and freshest titles at amazingly low prices.  We scour the globe for the books which go on our shelves.  No dump-bins full of tired old remainders for us.  We like to be known as the business which sells remaindered books yet looks like a retail bookstore.   

Recently we've begun to stock full retail titles, to provide 'full service' to our loyal customers.  If we don't have a book in-store, we might be able to order it in for you.  

Libro is the name of the book purchasing, warehousing and logistics arm of the business.  Our warehouse holds thousands of titles ready to ship.  Our online payment gateway, which guarantees the security of your online purchase with us, is run in the Libro name, so your credit card statement will read "Libro - Better Books Online".  All your ordering and shipping enquiries will be directed through Libro, so you may receive an email from us directly, or from a Libro email address if you have any questions about your order.
