About Us

The Book Grocer is an Australian, family-owned business.  We have been buying and selling books since 2000, when the first Castlebooks store opened in Kingston, ACT.  Castlebooks then grew into the wholesale side of our business and in early 2007 we opened the first Book Grocer in Brunswick, Victoria.  Book Grocers can now be found in a range of locations across Victoria, New South Wales and of course, Canberra.

We take pride in the fact that all our books are priced at $10 or less, both in our stores and online.

Our specialty is sourcing discounted books of amazing quality and passing on to our customers the best possible price.  We take our book buying very seriously indeed.  We scour the globe and the best publishers and suppliers for the best bargains, but no book arrives in our warehouse simply because it's cheap. It has to be something we want to read ourselves and would recommend to others.  We like to be known as the business which sells discounted books yet looks like a retail bookstore.

Our staff also love reading and recommending books to others and we are proud of the role they play in demonstrating to our customers how good discount books can be.

Libro is the name of the book purchasing, warehousing and logistics arm of the business.  Our warehouse holds thousands of titles ready to ship.  Our online payment gateway, which guarantees the security of your online purchase with us, is run in the Libro name, so your credit card statement will read "Libro - Better Books Online".  All your ordering and shipping enquiries will be directed through Libro, so you may receive an email from us directly, or from a Libro email address if you have any questions about your order.

We hope to see you in your closest Book Grocer store soon.
